Hanmiok Korean & Japanese Restaurant

Once you pass the plastic food in the window of Brighton's Hanmiok, you'll find an extensive menu that includes expertly prepared dishes from Japan, China, and Korea. The prices for main courses start at $6.95, but the truly budget-conscious will be astounded by the freebies: each meal comes with a whole array of appetizers at no extra cost. Chef Kim Gil Yeun, with 30 years of experience, uses only natural ingredients in such favorites as kimchee (spicy cabbage), potato wedges in soy sauce, marinated spinach, and soybean soup. Then be prepared for the large entrees, like bibimbob ($6.95 lunch, $8.50 dinner) or job chae ($6.95 lunch, dinner price varies). And as though the fish tanks, sushi bar, friendly service, and imported Asian beer weren't enough, no one gets out the door without a free stick of gum.

Hanmiok, located at 351 Washington Street, in Brighton, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call 783-2090. -- Kevin Shortsleeve
