Pick of pickles

Trois Petits Cochons cornichons

by Theresa Regli

Tired of the same old dill pickles? There is a more pungent, sweeter variety of pickle the French call cornichons and we call gherkins. They're made from a darker and smaller version of the cucumber grown specifically for pickle-making purposes. Tiny and decorative, they look and taste excellent with pâté and/or cold cuts. Trois Petits Cochons gherkins are packed with pearl onions in vinegar, and are imported from Morocco. A 12.5-ounce jar costs $2.49 at Trader Joe's stores. Call (617) 491-8582.
