Pupusas

Pupu platter

by Rob McKeown

NOSHING & SIPPING
Latin Americans have a thing for stuffing little fried pockets of dough full of punchy flavors. Pupusas -- puffy, pancake-looking packets made of cornmeal -- aren't the best-known example, but they're among the tastiest. Salvadoran in origin, they are distant cousins of the empanada, but less greasy and brighter in flavor. Andale, a Mexican restaurant at 513-B Medford Street, in Somerville, serves them for $1.50 each, stuffed with your choice of pork or beans and cheese. There's also a vegetarian version made with zucchini. Call (617) 625-5454.
