Full Blown Chaos
WAKE THE DEMONS
(STILLBORN)

Like Sworn Enemy, Full Blown Chaos are New York City metalcore upstarts who share their label and their producer with scene kings Hatebreed. That should give Headbangers Ball fans a good idea of what to expect on this full-length debut: it’s a fine collection of short, fast, brutal songs about life on the mean streets. "Made in his image, you’ll die the same," frontman Ray barks on the blasphemous first single, "Apocalypse." The track gets its black heart from metal and its vicious kick from hardcore.

Hatebreed and friends work within such strict boundaries that they run the risk of wearing out their welcome with every new release. But producer Zeuss continues his hot streak here. With their lethal combination of holy wars and turf wars, Full Blown Chaos might be the most metal band in their whole crew. "Burned Alive" is another fierce attack on Christianity; "Sentenced" is a crushing revenge fantasy: "There will be no justice/Till everything you love comes crashing down." There are a few positive moments elsewhere, but this is metalcore at its most evil.

(Full Blown Chaos open for Hatebreed this Tuesday, December 28, at the Palladium, 261 Main Street in Worcester; call 508-797-9696.)
