Detroit’s Electric Six indulge in a disco-metal free-for-all on Fire that brings to mind Spinal Tap faking their way through a Village People convention. The throbbing and catchy "Danger! High Voltage" features a faux-mo erotic duet between cock-rockin’ Electric Six frontman Dick Valentine and the White Stripes’ Jack White that slams wah-wah guitars up against Saturday Night Fever beats and adds a little dirty sax to the mix for good measure. Elsewhere, Valentine bellows absurd, decidedly un-PC lyrics — titles like "Naked Pictures (of Your Mother)" and "Gay Bar" sum up his approach nicely — and unabashedly howls "Sooooo-loooow!!" before the guitars squeal. "Vengeance and Fashion" plays like a supercharged romp through Robert Palmer’s back catalogue, and the squiggly synth melody of "I Invented the Night" brings to mind Gary Numan’s "Down in the Park." The quintet keep the camp factor and riffage level up around 11 throughout, and their tongues planted firmly in cheek. In the end, you won’t know whether to throw up devil horns, throw on a white leisure suit, or both.
