Du temps et de l’instant , on the other hand, is a family affair, with Savall’s wife, Montserrat Figueras, and their children, Arianna and Ferran Savall, all singing and Arianna playing the harp and Ferran the theorbo and Pedro Estevan helping out with percussion as they range through music from Spain, France, Brittany, Italy, Greece, Israel, Morocco, Afghanistan, and Mexico, building the bridges Savall in his liner note speaks of between East and West, classical and popular, ancient and contemporary, even improvising as they go. It’s classical that’s popular, music that lives.
