I like to tell people the Growlers started out wanting to be Flogging Molly, then changed their minds and wanted to be the World/Inferno Friendship Society. Outlaw Waltz makes me sound like a liar. On their last two albums, Growlers fans have heard them gruffly bark the praises of booze, adventure, and the ongoing quest for something other than a shitty, boring life. But we certainly haven't heard breakdowns and jam-outs this dense and intricate from the Growlers, or any other folk-punk band who still play basements. As if living in the van and showing up in town without a show weren't enough, the Growlers had the audacity to put a wah-wah pedal on a violin. These are not the actions of practical men. As if they give a fuck.

Sayth Swagger, "The fiddle is flying. The booze is flowing. The drugs are being smoked. Welcome to the party."

Before I had the foggiest idea that Foursquare existed, our esteemed managing editor pitched me the idea of interviewing mayors. Following a deeply confusing 20-minute-or-so conversation, I started to understand that she wasn't asking me to interview Menino every week.
