Goodbye Conversions; hello Hair Police

Even under the most amicable of circumstances, breaking up is hard to do. (Or so Mr. Sedaka tells us.) But Boston’s boundary-pushing hardcore heroes CONVERSIONS are doing their level best to soften the blow. So when they found out that singer Terry Cuozzo was leaving town, the band decided to celebrate their imminent demise by putting together a final, primal scream of a show at the Papercut Zine Library in Harvard Square this Saturday. They’re calling the concert their “Last Waltz,” and they’ve invited LIFE PARTNERS, BRAIN KILLER, SCAPEGOAT, and a very special guest to join them. With two PAs, you can be certain the music will come fast and furious.
As drummer Chris Strunk explains, the show was meant to be a release party for Conversions’ second full-length, but the album’s release has been delayed till fall. Their debut, last year’s Prisoners’ Inventions, mixed ’80s hardcore and ’90s thrash with scorching yet artful results. Strunk says the forthcoming LP is very different, with a lot more improvisation and less-straightforward song structures. Not to worry, however: “Spineless Wonders is still hardcore.”
For those who need more volume, please, this Tuesday the illustrious noise trio HAIR POLICE will at last be coming to town — their spring tour was cut short prior to their Boston date by a nasty car crash. Joining them at the Middle East upstairs will be some of Boston’s finest practitioners of high-decibel carnage, among them the always formidable HEATHEN SHAME and the ever more impressive RED HORSE.
