WENDY CHAPKIS | "Pleasure isn't a problem, at least not in and of itself. In my feminist fantasy, all consensual adult practices of pleasure would be legal. Rather than arresting men for jerking off in porn theaters and having sex in the backrooms of adult video stores, we'd create sex clubs where consenting adults of all genders could negotiate for the kinds of pleasure they want. We'd create designated cruising areas where those who want anonymous, outdoor sex could find it in a safe and consensual environment. And this isn't just a fantasy — it's a reality in other places outside of the state of Maine. For example, San Francisco has sex clubs; Amsterdam has legal cruising areas. But in Maine, we waste enormous resources policing illicit sex. Doesn't it make more sense to use those law enforcement resources on preventing and punishing sexual assault?"
