The Burren
The Burren, in Somerville's Davis Square, is a spacious watering hole that
offers music with no cover charge. The beer menu is long, the help is
super-friendly, and Irish musicians show up nightly -- usually around nine
o'clock (six o'clock on Sunday).
On a recent night, the dinner menu started with a tasty cream-of-celery
soup ($2.50) and mixed greens ($2.25). Red-meat fanatics will be sated by an
eight-ounce Burren Burger ($5.75) or a 10-ounce Burren Steak ($10.95), and fish
lovers can order the homemade fish-cakes ($6.75) or beer-batter fish and chips
($6.50). The tangy Chicken Modena special ($6.75) and the mild but hearty
Guinness beef stew ($5.75) are also recommended.
The Burren, located at 247 Elm Street in Davis Square, Somerville, is
open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. and on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. (for
breakfast). Call 776-6896.
