Cheese and Cheer

At one of the worst driving intersections in Copley Square, locals and tourists alike have something at last to cheer about -- large deli sandwiches made with Boar's Head cold cuts and filled with free toppings, at friendly take-out prices ($3.50 to $4.75). All half-sandwiches cost under $2.75. The turkey-breast sandwich is $4.25 (half is $2.50). Homemade soup with half a sandwich is $4.25. Select from eight panini delights, including the smoked-salmon caprino ($4.75) -- layers of Norwegian salmon, goat cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes, drizzled with lemon vinaigrette on sliced focaccia; and the vegetable caprese ($4.60) -- a fragrant combination of red peppers and onions, lettuce, tomatoes, artichokes, and olives. Each sandwich comes lovingly wrapped with a pickle and a small homemade chocolate-chip cookie. Daily hot and cold specials, a wide assortment of gourmet cheeses, and fine wines and liquors are also available.

Cheese and Cheer, located at 15 Huntington Avenue, at the entrance to the Mass Pike (across from the Westin Hotel at Copley Place, and behind the Boston Public Library) is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call 247-1020, or fax 247-1331.
