Common Bostonian Restaurant

Don't be turned off by the smudged windows of the Common Bostonian. Even the most common of breakfasts -- an egg with home fries or grits, and white or wheat toast -- tastes uncommonly good, and costs just $1.85. For the same price, you can have two large pancakes, or add in blueberries for an additional 50 cents.

Daily specials are written on simple cardboard signs. Rumor has it that the complete dinners, such as baked chicken, meat loaf, or Salisbury steak ($4.80), shouldn't be missed. There are also plenty of sandwiches (all under $4).

The Common Bostonian, located at 849 Harrison Avenue, Boston, near Boston City Hospital and Boston University Medical Center, is open Monday through Friday during the summer from 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Longer weekday hours return in September. Call 427-7292.
