*** Pansy Division

WISH I'D TAKEN PICTURES

(Lookout!)

In one of the best tropes ever of the old blues line, Bay Area homocore trio Pansy Division open their new album with "Woke with a morning woody/Could not keep my hands off my goodies." Although each song clocks in at two and a half minutes or less, they aren't lacking in bite or bounce, with sharp, witty verses and chirping choruses. The leadoff "Horny in the Morning" is a rollicking ditty celebrating the morning erection. "Pee Shy" is a sneaky number about another uniquely male experience: the urinal. Other tales about beautiful boys and bedroom romps include "Dick of Death" and "Sidewalk Sale."

But it's not all scatological hoo-hahs. The laid-back "Don't Be So Sure" and the acoustic "The Ache" chronicle relationships and heartache. In addition to growing up, the Pansies have upgraded their sound to a more aggressive punk guitar that supports their edgy lyrics.
