Essentially a male version of Four Non-Blondes, Chalk FarM might as well call themselves Four Earnest, Handsome, Multicultural Guys from LA. Notwithstanding has all its licks neatly in place, and its vocals are eager and appropriately heartfelt. Michael Duff sings with the sensibility required of radio-friendly roots-rock dudes; he's got that lovelorn whimper down. There are catchy choruses, sing-along harmonies, and a smattering of accordions and violins tossed in for dramatic effect. And there's not a hint of danger or adventure lurking anywhere. You're safe here, and your mom won't tell you to turn it down.
