Fog of war: Is it possible one reason Bill Clinton resists sending ground troops to Kosovo is that he doesn't know the draft is over? There are only volunteers in the military . . . so haven't all the soldiers signed up for combat?

Thursday, April 22

Home front: None of the 20,000 refugees coming to the US will ever return to Kosovo. Here life is only temporarily insane. There, it's permanent.

Friday, April 23

Beyond irony: The First Lady will co-author a book chronicling "the Clintons' style of White House entertaining," we're told. Will it include the fundraising galas in the Lincoln bedroom or Monica's thong-a-thon? The title ought to be It Takes an Idiot to Buy This Book.

Saturday, April 24

Causeway casualty: "Dancin' " Antoine Walker and white-bread Boston . . . never the 'Twan shall meet. He's a bad fit.

Sunday, April 25

Veep bleep: If the Herald poll showing Gore losing to Bush in Massachusetts is correct, you can call Al toast.

End run: If the Patriots stay put, Tom Finneran belongs in the House Speakers' Hall of Fame. Who else, anywhere, has made the NFL heel?

Tuesday, April 27

Political revival: Who says politics doesn't matter anymore? Politicians control the fate of airport expansion, waterfront development, professional sports, and even the Fleet-BankBoston merger. Power is back!
