Corner Delight
One of this restaurant's signs reads CORNER DELIGHT, another PONTO DE ENCONTRO
-- "meeting place." It's all the same to chef/owner Fernando Ferreira, a native
of Lisbon who's been influenced in the kitchen by his Brazilian wife, a native
of São Paolo. The cuisines of three nations meet in this tiny spot,
which seats no more than 14 people at four tables. While you wait for the
enthusiastic Ferreira to cook up your meal, you can read Brazilian newspapers
and order soft drinks imported from Portugal and Brazil. There are plenty of
meat and seafood entrees to choose from: try the bright Bobo de Camarao
($6.95), a Bahia dish of shrimp, tomatoes, hot peppers, root cassava, and dende
(palm) oil, all simmered in coconut milk. Or try the generous Creole fish stew
($5.95), with tomatoes, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The stewed tripe with
beans and linguiça is $4.95, as is a roasted half-chicken with fries and
rice. The menu changes with the seasons, and there are daily specials as well,
all listed in large print on a blackboard posted outside the store. Take-out is
available.
