Broadway Marketplace dinners

Noshing & Sipping by Nancy Kalajian

Too tired to cook dinner? Want to impress your guests? Broadway Marketplace, in Cambridge, sells superior-quality prepared meals, mostly at prices between $5 and $7. Selections rotate daily and are showcased near the checkout counter. Some examples: Tuscan-style chicken over toasted-walnut pasta ($5.99); shepherd's pie ($4.99); nine large, tender baked sea scallops on a bed of noodles and veggies ($5.99). A savory pork loin ($5.99) is accompanied by an unsalty, yet zesty, rice pilaf and grilled vegetables. Some dishes have Louisiana flair, like the blackened catfish with jambalaya and crawfish étouffée ($5.99). That's probably the influence of Philip Folse, Broadway Marketplace's food service director, whose brother John is the host of PBS's Taste of Louisiana. Broadway Marketplace is located at 468 Broadway, in Cambridge, not far from Harvard Square. Call (617) 547-2334.
