Sorelle hermits

When tradition gets good

Noshing & Sipping by Nancy Kalajian

Hermits are an old-fashioned New England cookie that I never really liked until I tried the version at Sorelle. Baked fresh daily, these humongous, ultra-moist hermits are nearly an inch thick, rising up with the grandeur of the nearby Bunker Hill Monument, and flavored with a strangely addictive blend of molasses, raisins, brown sugar, and spices. They sell for $1.50 each. Sorelle has lots of other quality baked items available as well: scones, muffins, cookies, and breads. Sorelle Bakery Café is located at One Monument Avenue, in Charlestown (at the corner of Main Street and Monument Avenue). Call (617) 242-2125 for hours.
