Take Me Marché

Less möving and more picking

by Chris Wright

ON THE CHEAP
Marché Mövenpick's high-concept multicultural cafeteria in the Pru is enough to drive anyone a bit batty, however tasty the food. It's nice to know, then, that if you aren't in the mood for running around between crowded food stations, there's an efficient, friendly, inexpensive delicatessen on the lower level.

On a recent lunchtime foray we got a slab of meat loaf (moist, coherent); grilled veggies (peppers, onions, zucchini, squash); a slice of mushroom strudel (sloppy, heavy -- just right); a wedge of potato frittata (or "wedge of grease," as my companion put it); a sausage and pepper side (fennelly, garlicky); an eggplant and pepper side (spicy); a ham sandwich on a Swissie (basically white, semi-crunchy bread); and a block of carrot cake.

Enough food for three cost $20.90, with sodas. And the experience was mercifully free of the chaos upstairs.

Take Me Marché is located in the Shops at Prudential Center (800 Boylston Street, Boston); you can also enter directly from Belvidere Street. It's open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call (617) 578-0987.
