Micky Blue Eyes

(Warner)

Kelly Makin's film has phlegmatic, stuttering Hugh Grant as Manhattan art auctioneer Michael Felgate, whose stodginess melts before hot-blooded Gina Vitale (Jeanne Tripplehorn). Only, her dad (an uncharacteristically subdued James Caan) is a crime boss for the Graziosi family, and once they're engaged, Gina's Uncle Vito (an emaciated Burt Young) begins to launder money through Michael's auction house. The spoof of conventions here deepens into genuine suspense and irony in the hilarious conclusion.
