A Streetcar Named Desire

(1951; screens Wednesday at 7:40 p.m.)

A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams's play has been slightly tamed for the screen, but Vivien Leigh's flirty, ultra-feminine Blanche du Bois and Marlon Brando's bad-boy sensualist Stanley Kowalski are among the most electrifying matches in movie history. Kim Hunter's performance as Stella could hardly be better, and the same is true of Elia Kazan's direction.
