Unforgiven

(1992; screens Sunday at 4:30 p.m.)

This Clint Eastwood film can join the company of America's great Westerns, with Eastwood as a Kansas widower and father who, in the interests of justice, enlists a former compadre (Morgan Freeman) and the nephew of a former confederate (Jaimz Woolvett) and heads for Big Whiskey, which is presided over by old nemesis Sheriff Little Bill Daggett (a complex, inspired Gene Hackman). The horrifying climax is the culmination not just of a multi-layered masterpiece but of a career.
