Anastasia

(Twentieth Century Fox)

This animated feature about Tsar Nicholas II's youngest daughter has all the new-Disney trademarks: a romantic couple with attitude, cute animals, a villain who'll stop at nothing, opulent sets, big-name actors, and a Broadway-type score. The story has the amnesiac Anastasia (Meg Ryan) getting taken to Paris by wheeler-dealer Dimitri (John Cusack) in search of her grandmother (Angela Lansbury), despite the best efforts of the evil, risen-from-the-dead Rasputin (Christopher Lloyd). Eventually, of course, Anastasia and Dimitri fall in love, and they're as charming as Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant in Charade.
