The Big Chill

(Columbia TriStar)

In his yuppie soaper about seven ex-counterculture activists who reunite at the funeral of a former classmate, Lawrence Kasdan ends up saying is that it sure is a cold, cruel world out there, and that those who experienced the '60s are now teeming with guilt about wealth and status. But Jeff Goldblum and William Hurt bring their roles an ironic humor and anger that cuts through the movie's air of nostalgia for the faded golden age.
