The Siege

(Fox)

Edward Zwick's timely, tense, ultimately unconvincing thriller has an energetic Denzel Washington as the head of the FBI anti-terrorism unit in New York, Annette Bening as a shadowy CIA figure who takes the concept of sleeping with the enemy literally, and Bruce Willis as an Oliver North-like general with an Army division and the carte blanche of martial law, all in a story about a kidnapped bin Laden-like Islamic leader. Little of this holds together in retrospect, and it ends in dutiful speechifying.
