Three stars

You've Got Mail

(Warner)

Nora EphronÕs Internet remake of Ernst LubitschÕs classic The Shop Around the Corner doesnÕt touch the depth, warmth, and subtlety of the original, but it does offer wit and maturity Ņ credit stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, recycled from EphronÕs Sleepless in Seattle and once again playing potential lovers crossed by the high-tech media designed to draw them closer together. HeÕs the manager of a corporate bookstore chain putting little independent venues out of business; she owns one such establishment, coyly named ŌThe Little Shop Around the Corner.Ķ Structural elegance is not the hallmark of Mail, and neither is depth of insight, but the film makes up for some of its shortcomings with the delightful performances from Hanks and Ryan and its inspired, throwaway marginalia.
