The King and I

(Warner)

Morgan Creek's animated version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's 1951 Broadway musical has new characters like the Kralahome (Ian Richardson), an evil royal adviser who wants arriving British schoolteacher Anna (Miranda Richardson) to report the King of Siam (Martin Vidnovic) as a "barbarian" so the Brits will kick him out and the Kralahome can step in. There are plot "improvements" and lots of cute animals, but the animation is Saturday-morning quality, and too much of R&H's music is conspicuous by its absence. For kids only.
