Three stars

American Pie

(Universal)

This film from Chris and Paul Weitz remembers what it was like to be a teenager. With graduation looming, the movie's four young friends find that they're still virgins. There's no soul searching here, no lost-little-boy-to-caring-sharing-man transformation, no deeply profound revelation about life, love, or football. Just a group of guys trying to get some. American Pie offers refreshing honesty -- and a slice of teenage life that other films tend to sweep under the rug.
