GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

(Kill Rock Stars)

The Kill Rock Stars label has littered its impressive and often groundbreaking roster with the occasional dud, and this is one of them. The Peechees do their level best to rip into 15 cuts on Games People Play, mostly to no avail. Singer Appelgren lays on the sneering "punk" attitude so thick you could pierce or tattoo it, but the line-up backing him just doesn't have the chops to support all the angst and pissiness. About the best thing you can say about the Peechees is that they've managed to kick around the Northwest scene without being mentioned in the same breath as "grunge" or Mudhoney. Still, Games People Play is like a mug of lukewarm coffee: there's kick in there somewhere, but getting to it is a serious downer.
