Greener on the other side BY RUTH TOBIAS

Calling this Bread & Circus specialty " low-fat guacamole " is kind of like referring to War and Peace as Conflict and Resolution: it’s not quite true to the spirit of the thing. What we’re really talking about here is a cool, creamy avocado-and-pea dip that gets its zip from cumin and lime, and its kick from jalapeño and black pepper. In other words, " Our Chef’s Own Lowfat Guacamole " ($2.99) is far more complex than your basic guac, and nicely graces crackers, pita crisps, and raw veggies as well as chips. Lately, I’ve just been calling it " lunch, " and darned if it isn’t worthy of the name. Available from the deli case at Bread & Circus.Issue Date: June 21-28, 2001 |
