Out of a Flower ice cream
A flavor phenomenon

When it comes to ice cream, there are flavors and then there are flavors. The folks at Out of a Flower, Inc., favor the latter — and how. You like seasonal varieties — say, pumpkin? Then these guys will give you pumpkin, seeds and all, enhanced with a touch of rosemary. Think eggnog and candy canes are festive? Try Spiced Cranberries, Port, Sage, and Pecans — a blend so chock full of classic holiday ingredients that you could practically serve your turkey à la mode and call it a day. Rose-colored and pepper-scented, it manages to be tart, nutty, and mellow all at once (and don’t we all, come Christmastime?). Suppose you’d just as soon stick with vanilla? The company makes two — one with orchids, the other with jalapeños. After all, at this point, plain old vanilla would be downright perverse.

Available for $6.99 a pint at DeLuca’s Market, 11 Charles Street, in Boston. Call (617) 523-4343.

Issue Date: November 29 - December 6, 2001
