Cambridge Brewing Company jazz brunch
Never too early to drink
BY NINA MACLAUGHLIN

  PREVIOUS COLUMNS

We love a good Sunday brunch. When else is it acceptable, nay customary, to drink champagne at noon? But so often we’re disappointed by measly mimosas. Six ounces of orange juice and bubbly can be imbibed in three quick gulps. Why even bother? Leave it to a brewing company to get it right. At Cambridge Brewing Company’s Sunday jazz brunch, the mimosas ($5) come in pint glasses. That’s 19.2 ounces of fresh-squeezed orange juice and champagne. It’s a bright and bubbly, sweet and sparkly way to ease into your Sunday.

And for a slightly darker feel, try the Black Velvet ($5), a pint of equal parts champagne and CBC’s own porter. The drink embodies exactly what Sunday brunch should be: the champagne is slightly sweet and festive, while the porter has a relaxed and low-key smoothness. Combine the drinks with executive chef John Palughi’s French-toast masterpiece (stuffed with bananas and chocolate or raspberries and cream cheese), or an omelet with your favorite fresh fillings, and you’ll experience brunch at its best. Wear your jeans. Enjoy the jazz. Have a mimosa. Have a Black Velvet. Or just have a beer. It is a brewing company, after all.

Cambridge Brewing Company’s jazz brunch is held on Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 1 Kendall Square, in Cambridge. Call (617) 494-1994.
