Dalí Restaurant sangria
A lispalicious summer treat

You can sip sangria in almost any local restaurant these days, but a little purple hideaway in Inman Square actually transports you to Spain.

At Dalí Restaurant and Tapas Bar, you’ll find one of Boston’s best sangrias. Made with red wine, orange juice, and brandy, it has none of the carbonated water that dilutes other offerings around town. Strong yet sweet, it’s the perfect complement to gambas al ajillo, Dalí’s signature garlic-shrimp tapa.

Crowded shoulder to shoulder at the blue-and-yellow-tiled bar, you’re soon contemplating chunks of fruit — which are all that remain in your red-streaked glass. Like a native of Barcelona (or rather, Barthelona), you cry, " Un otro glath of thangria, por favor. " Is it the convivial wait staff’s Spanish accents that have you speaking with a Castillian lisp? The romantic lighting? The festoons of dried sunflowers hanging over the bar? Most likely, it’s simply the result of one too many pitchers of sangria, which go down oh-so-smoothly on steamy summer nights.

Available for $18 for a one-liter pitcher, $30 for a two-liter pitcher, and $5.50 per glass at Dalí Restaurant and Tapas Bar, 415 Washington Street, in Somerville. Call (617) 661-3254, or visit www.dalirestaurant.com
