Richart chocolates
Beauty in a box
BY TAMARA WIEDER
Previous Columns

Sending chocolates and a press release to an editor generally doesn’t ensure you the ink you’re looking for. That is, unless the press release is made entirely of chocolate, and the chocolates it accompanies are some of the tastiest, most beautiful little morsels an editor’s ever seen or tasted.

Such is the case with Richart. When the French chocolatier delivered its Petits Richart Intense collection to our doorstep, complete with a perfectly printed — and not at all melted — chocolate press release announcing its new store at Copley Place, we were skeptical. After all, the 49 mini chocolates nestled in the box boasted such unusual flavors as curry praline, thyme praline, alpine-flower ganache, basil ganache, ginger ganache, lavender ganache, green-tea ganache, and exotic-flower coulis. What kind of cocoa joke was this?

And then we tasted, and the joke was on us. Each tiny piece, in addition to being divinely decorated with intricate patterns and colors, positively burst from its rich chocolate shell with flavors both startling and sublime. From rose ganache to nutmeg praline, we ate our way through the box, all the while plotting the quickest route to Richart for a refill.

One of many items, the Petits Richart Intense collection is available for $59 at Richart, Copley Place, 100 Huntington Avenue, in Boston. Call (617) 262-4144, or visit www.richart-chocolates.com.
