Upcoming local dining events

JUNE 21

You don’t need to head down to New Orleans to enjoy that most Southern of foods, the crawfish. On June 21, Rouge (480 Columbus Avenue, Boston) hosts its third annual Summer Crawfish Boil, featuring a Bud Draft and hushpuppy reception at 6 p.m., followed by a family-style sit-down dinner of crawfish, red potatoes, corn on the cob, and banana pudding. The cost is $30, excluding tax and gratuity, and reservations are suggested. Call (617) 867-0600 for information and reservations.

It may not be the friendliest of events for vegetarians and those who keep kosher, but everyone else would be advised to check out "Porkapalooza" at Hamersley’s Bistro (553 Tremont Street, Boston) on June 21. Peter Kaminsky, author of Pig Perfect: Encounters with Remarkable Swine and Some Great Ways To Cook Them, joins chef Gordon Hamersley for the event, which features a four-course menu including barbecue ribs, potstickers, and grilled loin chop. The cost is $50, excluding tax, gratuity, and alcohol; dishes are also available à la carte. Call (617) 423-2700 for reservations and information, or visit www.hamersleysbistro.com.

JUNE 24

Your favorite chefs are usually working hard behind the scenes, and they’re almost always wearing pants. Not on June 24. That’s when the eighth annual Chefs in Shorts brings many of the area’s best chefs (and their abbreviated legwear) to Eastport Park at the World Trade Center (2 Seaport Lane, Boston) for a night of grilling and warm-weather dishes to benefit Boston MedFlight. Gabriel Frasca (Spire), Daniel Kenney (Julien), Jenny Cates (Bonfire), and Paige Retus (Metropolitan Club) are some of the chefs scheduled to attend the event, which runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $60, including beer, wine, and tastings. Call (617) 385-5955 for tickets and information.
