Upcoming local dining events

JULY 1 – 27

Chris Douglass says he just might play the number 27 on his next lottery ticket. The chef/owner of Icarus (3 Appleton Street, Boston) has reason to favor the number: the restaurant celebrates its 27th birthday this month, and was also rated 27 (out of 30) for food in the 2005 Zagat Survey. What better way to recognize both achievements than with a three-course prix fixe dinner menu, served during the first 27 days of July for — what else? — $27. Call 617.426.1790 for reservations and information.

JULY 3 & ALL SUMMER LONG

We’ve got sympathy for those who can’t get out of the city this summer, but now that West Side Lounge (1680 Mass Ave, Cambridge) has announced its seasonal events, we’re saving the pity. On Saturday nights throughout the summer, the restaurant is offering clambakes featuring steamers, peel-and-eat shrimp, mussels, corn, and more, all for a very reasonable $23. And on Sunday nights, at 9 pm, West Side is hosting a movie series, boasting, "great flicks on the smallest screens in town." (Hey, at least they’re honest.) There’s a featured cocktail for each film or program, along with free popcorn and candy. On July 3, check out season one of Chappelle’s Show and enjoy Dave’s Peaches ’n’ Cream; July 10 brings Man on Fire and a Man on Fire Sour. Call 617.441.5566 for information.

JULY 5

Lucky for us, the world of wine has become a much bigger place in recent years. In addition to time-honored standard-bearers like France and Italy, countries like Israel, India, and Croatia are now getting in on the winemaking trade. Want to learn more? Head to Aujourd’Hui (Four Seasons, 200 Boylston Street, Boston) on July 5, at 6 pm, and July 7, at 8 pm, when the restaurant continues its Epicurean Evenings series with "Wine from Where??," a look at (and taste of) some of the wine world’s newest entries. The cost is $45; call 617.351.2037 for reservations.
