THE DEAL

Imagine an America in which politicians launch a war against Middle Eastern nations to secure cheaper oil and conspire with corporations to divvy up the spoils! Harvey Kahn’s Wall Street thriller stars Christian Slater as Tom Hanson, an investment banker in need of a big deal. Stringing along Abby Gallagher (Selma Blair), an idealistic environmentalist, Tom arranges a $20 billion oil transaction. Enter the Russian mob and corrupt politicos, and Tom must choose between saving kidnapped Abby and reneging on a deal he’s found out is bogus. The low production values and wooden acting reek of a TV movie, one that tries to address a complex geopolitical situation with MBA gobbledygook and faux Russian accents. (107 minutes)
