107 MINUTES | BRATTLE: SEPT 16-17 [MIDNIGHT] It’s hard to screw up a lesbian vampire movie, and Wilhelm Liebenberg and Federico Sanchez don’t entirely botch this one, but they come pretty close. Cinematography stands out as something done right: as gorgeous as the cast, it’s spot on in evoking debauched opulence. But it’s easy to pay attention to craft when you’re not being distracted by plot, character, or even sex. The wife of lecherous Montreal cop Raymond Pope (Conrad Pla) goes missing, and the crime trail leads to the mansion of Elizabeth Kane (Caroline Néron), a bloodthirsty seductress who lures women through the Internet so she can use their blood as an anti-aging aid. The chase takes Pope to Venice for an Eyes Wide Shut-style rave orgy, but one without any sense of menace or sensuality. Women throughout are scantily clad but never scantily enough, there’s plenty of sex but almost nothing sexy. Kane is a convincing villain, but Pope, at the mercy of his raging libido, feels more cold-blooded than the vampiric murders.
