Brian Eno has spawned devotees all over the world who spend countless hours cataloguing the various branches from his tree of ambient music. The site — http://www.disquiet.com/ — is a treasure trove for anyone interested in further exploration. STILL | "FUTILITY" | PUBLIC GUILT Still (a/k/a Hsi-Chang Ling) is best known as the turntablist for Dalek, an avant band on Mike Patton’s mostly metal Ipecac label. This is a soothing yet unsettling ambient piece based on the sound of vinyl LP cracks that’s part of Still’s forthcoming Remains EP. ALARM WILL SOUND | "4" | CANTALOUPE Alarm Will Sound would get high marks for simply attempting to cover drum ’n’ bass master Aphex Twin’s work in a fully acoustic setting. That they pull it off is nothing short of miraculous. This is one of the more easily recognizable tracks from the CD Acoustica. AESOP ROCK | "FRIJOLES" | DEFINITIVE JUX No, "ambient" doesn’t mean w/o vocals. But with its tweaked theremin and looped groove, this instrumental cut from Aesop’s Build Your Own Bazooka Tooth proves you don’t have to know Eno to borrow his ideas. BRIAN ENO | ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH "MONTAGE" | RYKODISC In what may be yet another groundbreaking move on Eno’s part, he’s created a 10-minute montage of his new Ryko album — a sampler platter, if you will — that offers a brief taste of most of the album’s key tracks.
