MARC PINANSKY isn’t letting the break-up of his old band Runner and the Thermodynamics slow him down. The singer/guitarist plays solo tonight (September 29) at an ASCAP/NEMO showcase at the All Asia in Cambridge. He’s also in the process of starting a band with former Cancer Conspiracy drummer GREG BEADLE, and he’ll debut some of that new material, backed by local power-pop band AMERICAN CAR, Sunday at Berk’s Shoes in Cambridge. The free 7 pm gig also features ebullient indie rockers MITTENS. And Pinansky is playing bass in APPLETOWN GUN SHOP, a group founded by former Fashion Colt guitarist and current Headband member BRAD HIGHLAND, and featuring guitarist Chris Hemmeter and the Lot Six’s JULIAN CASSANETTI on keyboards. See them October 14 at the Paradise Lounge . . . The supersecret guest at Wednesday’s hurricane-relief benefit show at T.T. the Bear’s is JULIANA HATFIELD, with her trio. Tickets are $12 and benefit Noah’s Wish and Habitat for Humanity . . . Kimchee recording artists SEEKONK went back to nature to record a 15-minute song at an abandoned fort on an island off the coast of Portland, Maine. The song appears on a split with Conifer and Moneycastasia to be released at Christmas. Expect an intricate mix of strings, vibraphone, and classical guitar, plus curses from a nearby paintball game that accidentally bled into the mix . . . THE BEATINGS have completed a new album, Holding on to Hand Grenades, due for release in early 2006, or whenever they "scrounge up spare change from our sofas," says singer/guitarist Tony Skalicky. The 16-song disc was recorded by Tim Shea and produced by Paul Kolderie. The band will preview material from it Saturday at Great Scott . . . And former Blood for Blood leader Rob Lind’s metalcore band RAMALLAH have replaced bassist Keith Bennett, formerly of Wrecking Crew, with Dan Garcia from Premonitions of War. A video for Ramallah’s "The Horror and the Gag" — directed by former Blood for Blood bassist IAN MCFARLAND — is online at http://www.thorprecords.com/.
