Notes

BY SARAH TOMLINSON

One of Boston’s historic rock hubs is in peril. The block-long building at 1304-1312 Boylston Street has been one of the city’s largest rehearsal complexes for more than a decade (Aimee Mann, Weezer, and Cave In are among the hundreds of groups who’ve rented space there), and it also houses numerous recording studios including New Alliance Audio, Dave Minehan’s Woolly Mammoth, and Bob Logan’s Small Church. The building has been sold by the Russo Family Trust to the 1312 Boylston Street LLC. Current tenants were advised in an October 28 letter to vacate the premises by January 6 and directed to address all future correspondence to the real-estate law firm Goulston and Storrs. . . . Art-rockers HUMANWINE are recording new material with Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade over the next few months for release on Warner Music Group’s Cordless Recordings, a new "eLabel" started by Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman. They were the new venture’s first signee to the digital-only imprint back in February, after one of Holzman’s friends played the band for him. Their first EP-sized cluster of songs, "Kalifornia," "Fire," and "Estat," is available at http://www.cordless.com/ and through digital-music sites like iTunes. The next cluster will be on-line soon after it’s recorded and will offer "pirate music with a socio-political tongue." The group perform December 2 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre as part of Evan O’Television’s "Return of the Itching Man." . . . Local power-poppers SCAMPER recently recruited former Letters to Cleo frontwoman KAY HANLEY to sing backing vocals on "Barcelona," which also includes contributions from two other ex-LTC members. It was recorded by Hanley’s husband, guitarist Michael Eisenstein, and produced, mixed, and engineered by LTC drummer Tom Polce; you can hear it at www.myspace.com/scamper. Songs from the band’s debut album, Leave Your Glasses On (Punctus Versus), have been optioned for MTV’s "My Super Sweet 16." . . . The BLEEDIN BLEEDINS throw a listening party Wednesday at ZuZu for their debut CD, Life Without Computers; they’ll celebrate the album’s release at T.T. the Bear’s on January 27 with Dear Leader. They’re working on a distribution deal in Ireland, where they’ve done three-multi-city tours, including a Limerick gig with popular Irish band Republic of Loose, for more than a thousand attendees.
