Dressy Bessy
SOUND GO ROUND
(KINDERCORE)

Stars graphics

As a follow-up to their similarly fluffy í99 debut, Pink Hearts Yellow Moons, and 2000ís The California EP, Sound Go Round isnít a big departure for this bubblegummy, pop-loving Denver quartet. But, hey, you donít mess with the cotton-candy machine when itís working. Especially not when itís landed you a few choice cuts on the Power Puff Girls soundtrack.

Thatís not to say there arenít a few surprises here. An í80s prom-night disco-ball synth breakdown pops up on "All the Colors." And Rob Greeneís fuzzed-out bass bottom keeps everything from getting too cuddly. But mostly, Sound Go Round is singer/guitarist Tammy Ealomís chewy girl-group melodies wrapped in just the right amount of jangle and bounce. And Ealom has an ear for hooks, whether Dressy Bessy are rocking out on "Carry On" or playing it cool, as on "I Saw Cinnamon."

(Dressy Bessy play T.T. the Bearís on March 27. Call 617-492-BEAR.)
