THE CUTS! SESSION 001
(GROOVALICIOUS)

Stars graphics

It’s not continuously mixed, and its songs have all appeared elsewhere, but as a compilation of the past year’s dance music, this 10-track collection would be hard to top. And if your meat is diva-style and boy-voiced house music, you won’t need to look past the highlights. First up are Andrea Brown’s raunchy "It’s Love (Trippin’)," Aubrey’s girl-twirling "Stand Still," Adele Holnes’s righteous "So Strong," and — daffiest of all — Different Gear vs. Sia’s "Drink To Get Drunk." Inaya Day’s "Can’t Stop Dancin’ " evokes, and stokes the flames of, 1980s-style soul disco (Loleatta Holloway and Jocelyn Brown); Robbie Rivera’s "Feel This" regales the dancer with funky deep-house rhythms. The session ends at its peak: "Blame," the pumped-up, post-Pet-Shop-Boys-style blues song by Germany’s Sono. Won’t need to look past these numbers? Hell, who’d even want to?
