KELLER WILLIAMS
SIGHT
SCI FIDELITY DVD

One-man jam band Keller Williams is an eclectic clown with a live show thatís become one of the hottest tickets in the jam/folk scene, and Sight (recorded at Mr. Smalls in Pittsburgh) makes it clear that heís loving every second. Dancing around the instrument-swamped stage with his sound-looping pedal, Williams winds his upbeat acoustic tunes through eccentric arrangements, and yes, he even beatboxes. Between-song footage reveals Williamsís penchant for rollerblading and speaking gibberish. Despite covers like "Stormy Weather" and Ani DiFrancoís "Swing," heís more interested in Phish-like absurdist wordplay ("Freeker by the Speaker") and instrumental pyrotechnics than sensitive folkie love songs. The guitar-slapping and other effects grow a bit tiresome, but you can always skip to the special features. Backstage partying? More like some excellent postshow bowling. Sex and drugs on the bus? More like Elvis impersonations (supplemented with fart noises) and a Guinness during one piano jamboree. His least sane moment is a mock workout video that is spliced into the middle of the show, but then again, thereís also some very rock-and-roll footage of Williams leading his í86 punk band through the Ramonesí "Teenage Lobotomy."
