Meet the Mayor: Great Scott

Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.

Great Scott
Joshua Smith

I understand you promote concerts here?
Yeah, Great Scott's kind of my favorite place to book shows. It's the place bands play their first show, then maybe move up to bigger venues and blow up.

Explain this shot we're about to do.
The Pickle Back is one of the greatest shots known to mankind. It's a shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle juice. Its origins are unknown, but it's been a staple of Great Scott for some time.

[Shots are consumed] How do you feel?
I feel great. The key to the Pickle Back is, you've got to use a really crap whiskey. You don't want anything high end in there, 'cause you're destroying the taste of it. If you love whiskey, there's no reason to do a Pickle Back. What did you think?

I think I'll start drinking pickle juice straight up.
You could probably get other people to give you their used pickle juice, although you don't want to go up to a random guy and ask for his pickle juice.

Do you know anyone who has lots of pickle juice?
Great Scott does. They used to not, until we discovered the Pickle Back.
