SPANISH SKETCHES World Music/CRASHarts brings flamenco to the Cutler Majestic Theatre March 2-4.
From the comic to the sublime, with a dash of flamenco, the winter season has it all.

DAVID PARKER AND THE BANG GROUP | January 11 + 18
Beneath the Bang Group's Misters and Sisters, a wry take on the American songbook, shines David Parker's love letter to his dad, late novelist Robert B. Parker.

Oberon, 2 Arrow St, Cambridge | $20-50

DANIEL MCCUSKER DANCE PROJECTS | January 12-14 + 19-21
McCusker's fine curatorial eye gathers a bouquet of thoughtful New England dance and image makers for ThIStHaT ShoW no.4 AND no.5. No. 4 features Lara Binder, Sheriden Thomas, Adriane Brayton, Audra Carabetta, and Brian Crabtree. No. 5 showcases Crabtree, Sarah Baumert, Sara Smith, Caitlin Corbett, Heidi Henderson, Kristy Kuhn, and Morgan Packard.

Central Square Theatre, 450 Mass Ave, Cambridge | $10-$20, discount for attending both

MONICA BILL BARNES & COMPANY | January 20-21
Make 'em laugh, then make 'em think. Barnes's Everything Is Getting Better All the Time ups the ante on shtick over a serious subtext questioning performance's inherent absurdity.

Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave, Boston

INBAL PINTO & AVSHALOM POLLAK DANCE COMPANY | February 3-4
A nightmare circus, set to a score of tango and Tuvan throat singing, comes to town in the Boston debut of Oyster.

Paramount Theatre, 560 Washington St, Boston | $50-$60

BOSTON BALLET | February 9-19 + March 1-11
On the February "Simply Sublime" bill, there's nice contrast between the misty Fokine Les sylphides and Christopher Wheeldon's new classic Polyphonia. In March, BB staples by Elo and Kylian get kicked up a notch combined alongside Christopher Bruce's Rooster in "Play with Fire," a program inspired by the Rolling Stones.

Opera House, 539 Washington St, Boston | $25-$132

STEPHEN PETRONIO COMPANY | February 10-12
Petronio's sexually charged Underland matches the choreographer's fast and furious movement invention to gothic songs by Nick Cave.

Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave, Boston

DANCE|MUSIC|SPACE | March 3
Powerful performers Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener, who danced with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, improvise in dialogue with multi-instrumentalist and composer Eyvind Kang.

Wellesley College, Tishman Commons, Wang Campus Center | Free

TRIPLE PLAY | February 16-19
New dance director Cathy Young brings fresh energy to the Conservatory, and the kids look great. The winter rep includes Young's tribute to Ellington plus works by Doug Varone and Daniel Pelzig. Beforehand, catch the installation by Christine Fricker with dancers from Prometheus Dance and the Elders Ensemble.

Boston Conservatory Theater, 31 Hemenway St, Boston | $10-$25

FLAMENCO FESTIVAL 2012 | March 2-4
Seville-based Rafaela Carrasco and Cordoba native Olga Pericet present contrasting takes on the flamenco tradition when their companies appear in consecutive performances.

Abel (a 2010 MCC grantee) layers the struggles of a married couple with ancient Indian parables in a premiere featuring music by Lee Perlman, played on both Western and Indian instruments.

Tsai Performance Center, 685 Comm Ave, Boston | $20-$25
