Laurel Nakadate's 2000 video triptych Oops! shows her dancing alongside awkward middle-aged guys in their shabby apartments to Britney Spears's pop hit: "Oops! I did it again/I played with your heart. . . . You think I'm in love, that I'm sent from above/I'm not that innocent." Nakadate blurs the line between any character she may be playing and the men just being themselves, between artifice and reality. She sets up these squirmy situations, but they crackle with real feelings of seduction, loneliness, alienation, humiliation, manipulation, desire.
