SOCIAL MEDIA POSTERITY
The hipster would not exist without social media. The hipster couple repays this debt with a token offering. Many a hipster couple has set up a designated area so their photographer friend may take pictures that resemble those from a photo booth — in some cases, an actual photo booth — and plaster them on Facebook. The iPhone, too, has its place at the hipster wedding. There's no need to leave technology at home when there's minutiae to document. Recently, a Chicago hipster has been photographed dancing crazily at several area hipster weddings with an iPhone. The video said hipster took, as well as iPhone photos of said hipster, are now housed on Facebook and Flickr.
Accordingly, a number of Web sites devoted to the hipster wedding have sprung up with names such as Offbeat Bride and Style Me Pretty. Married hipsters, fear not: you can weigh in on their forums, lending your expertise about which tandem bicycle best accommodates a bustle.
Social media has generated much of the hipster wedding accoutrements. Would mustache on a stick exist without Facebook? Would labeled pies? It's doubtful. Thanks, Facebook.

It was nine months before their wedding that my friends Vissy and Harry sat me down for a “We need to talk” moment. What they wanted was a favor: would I be willing to get ordained as a minister and officiate their wedding?
- Will Beacon Hill be bullied into enacting a politically correct law?
A case of high-school bullying in South Hadley ended in tragedy this past January when the alleged victim, a freshman girl, committed suicide. Sooner or later, Facebook had to figure into the sports-crime scene. There are at least two cases now of pro football players getting arrested for assault in fights resulting from their wives looking at their Facebook friends lists.

This holiday weekend marks the 25th anniversary of Fletch , the uneven but wildly enduring 1985 Chevy Chase comedy about a wisecracking reporter embroiled in a potboiler mystery.

There was, for a time, a pretty clear moral hierarchy in the tech sector. Microsoft was the evil overlord, Apple the virtuous underling.

- The year in tech
This year saw some tech wins (public information), some losses (privacy), and many more questions for the future of an increasingly wired world. (Example: Is anything secret anymore?) And there was the appearance of yet another grassroots David, and, as if a warning to future Davids, the epic collapse of a bloated Goliath.
