RATING: 3.5 out of 4 scally caps

AMY ADAMS | THE FIGHTER | CHARLENE
1. You've got to be a little crazy to stay in a relationship with Micky Ward, his seven sisters, and his virago mother (played in another Boston-accented, award-worthy performance by Melissa Leo).
2. No jail time, though the sisters mysteriously refer to her as the "MTV girl."
3. Will have her hands full with her future in-laws.
4. Has a few when working at the bah.
5. Went to college, so probably not.
6. Helps manage Micky so he can win the championship.
7. Has a way with the phrase "fahk you!"

RATING: 2 out of 4 scally caps

MARK WAHLBERG | THE FIGHTER | MICKY WARD
1. Takes a dozen punches for every one he delivers. And that's just in dealing with his family. Passive-aggressive? Masochistic?
2. Gets released on his own recognizance while brother Dicky gets locked away.
3. Getting beaten up in the ring is a break from dealing with the family.
4. Gets high on the dopamine released from intense pain.
5. Not only knows the mean streets but sweeps them as well.
6. Succeeds where his brother fails. And keeps most of his teeth.
7. You can take the boy out of Dawchestah, but you can't take the Dawchestah out of his voice.

RATING: 2.5 out of 4 scally caps

Director Lou Ye takes his noir seriously: most of this forlorn love triangle (or pentangle, as five individuals are involved) unravels almost invisibly in darkness and shadows.
