Take a deep breath ...

So much to do! And the Spot turns 2!
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  June 27, 2012

This week, THE SPOT UNDERGROUND is celebrating its 2nd anniversary with a parade of great acts, including POSI-VIBES (6.28), VIRAL SOUND (6.29), and BROTHER JOSCEPHUS & THE LOVE REVIVAL REVOLUTION ORCHESTRA (6.30), a 12-piece roof-raiser from New Orleans. Call 4011.383.7133 for ALL the deets. On FRIDAY (the 29th): head to Nick-a-Nee's (401.861.7290) for free music under the stars featuring JAY BERNDT & THE ORPHANS opening for MARK CUTLER & MEN OF GREAT COURAGE, celebrating the release of MC's Sweet Pain (see page 15). Speaking of CD release parties, highly-skilled rap duo DIRTYDURDIE is set to drop their new mixtape, The Clean Up, and will headline at Fête in O-ville with SWANN NOTTY (!) and more; all-ages and doors at 9 pm, call 401.383.1112. And don't forget the lovely ALLYSEN CALLERY (best RI singer/songwriter in 2012 as voted by YOU) appearing at Firehouse 13 with her new band THE NIGHT KITCHEN and the ALEC K. REDFEARN TRIO ($8, 401.270.1801). And for our blazed-out beachbum buds, stop by Ocean Mist (401.782.3740) as TURBINE and HAZE spark up the jams. On SATURDAY (the 30th), another BMP '12 victor, veteran ska/reggae jam collective THE AGENTS, headlines at the Met with THE SILKS (file these dudes under: Must See) and THE HEMPSTEDYS, all for $12 at the door (401.729.1005). Also on Saturday, STEVE ALLAIN, VUDU SISTER'S KEITH McCURDY, KATE JONES, and TRACIE POTOCHNIK close out Allain's "Sleeping In the Van Tour" at Fête; and AS220 (401.831.9327) presents a beast of a benefit show (for Harbor House RI) with NATIONAL PEST, a SOURPUS reunion, the supremely-badass LOLITA BLACK, and many more. A double-shot of Lolita, you ask? Fuck yeah, bro — LB is one of many acts performing at PVD's annual Smith Hill all-day blowout known as LibertyFest on WEDNESDAY (the 4th); the tentative schedule is fucking bananas (OSS, ATLANTIC THRILLS, DENVER BOOT, BAYLIES BAND, TRIANGLE FOREST, etc). See you there! And next THURSDAY (the 5th), decimate that Independence Day hangover with a fantastic 75or Less Records triple-dip at Fête featuring THE SENTIMENTAL FAVORITES, GALVANIZE, and SIX STAR GENERAL.
